The 2026 Design Trend Report
Trends can be tricky. On one hand, it’s always inspiring to see how home design evolves. Trends allow you to see your home with fresh eyes and give you permission to experiment and try new things. On the other hand, the pendulum will always swing and trends will come and go.
At the end of the day, we see trends as a way to inform and develop your personal style, which is really what home design is all about. Your home should feel like you. In fact, lived-in interiors is really the overarching theme this year. Gone are the days of all millennial gray homes where every space looks and feels the same. 2026 is all about trading in safe for soulful. Rooms should have personality and reflect who inhabits them. Your home doesn’t need to be catalog perfect and you don’t need to overhaul your home to align with this year’s trends. Instead, find obtainable ways to refresh your space so you truly love every inch of it. That’s really what makes your home timeless.
These are five of our favorite design trends unfolding in 2026 that we believe will have serious staying power… do you agree?
Sculptural Furniture
Curves dominated 2025 from arched doorways to curved sofas to rounded cabinetry. This year, that trend expands its horizons even further with more unique forms. The sculptural furniture trend not only celebrates curved lines, but asymmetrical edges, and abstract shapes, and artistic furniture frames. Furniture pieces essentially have become a form of functional art. Whether you choose to embrace the eccentric or adopt more of a sophisticated approach, these sculptural furniture pieces are sure to be a conversation starter.
Handmade and Hand-Painted Tiles
We have moved beyond mass-produced uniformity in our kitchens, baths, and backsplashes. Instead, we seek the perfectly imperfect look of handmade and hand-painted tiles. Whether created by Mother Nature (with marble and natural stone) or made by a skilled artisan, this tile trend is truly timeless. Organic, nature-connected foundational elements are filled with character and give your space a sense of authenticity. These tiles have been around for generations and, when well balanced, have staying power for many years to come.
Pattern Mixing
Mixing patterns has been a core tenant of traditional design for ages, but 2026 really embraces this concept across all home styles. The goal is to design a cohesive, character-rich look that reflects your personality. While this trend may seem like the rule book was thrown out the window, the trick to successfully pulling off pattern combinations is by creating harmony. Varied scales (small, medium, and large), a cohesive color palette, and differing pattern types (like florals paired with geometrics) all can help strike a balance.
Dark Wood Stains
Dark wood stains are making a strong comeback this year, bringing richness and warmth to our interiors. Whether it’s walnut, mahogany, or espresso, darker stains can be seen on cabinetry, flooring, and furniture in 2026. These shades are surprisingly versatile and pair beautifully with both the lighter wood tones and painted finishes that have been popular in recent years. The contrast of layering these different looks makes a sophisticated backdrop in any style home.
Silver, Chrome, and Polished Metals
Don’t fret! Brushed, matte, and aged brass and gold metals aren’t going anywhere. BUT silver, chrome, and polished metals are having a major moment in 2026. These subtle metallics are being reimagined as a new neutral in the form of hardware, mirrors, plumbing, and lighting. It has become very common to mix metals and we love the visual interest it lends to your home, especially in the kitchen and bathroom. Cool metals (chrome, polished nickel, brushed nickel) and warm metals (brass, copper, bronze) in particular play very well together. If you want to give this trend a try, we recommend keeping the plumbing fixtures in a consistent metal (think faucets and showerheads) and then layering in a different finish for decorative elements like cabinet hardware or mirrors.
